Cherry Class Blog 2026 27 Week 4 Term 1

Welcome to our latest Cherry Class blog.

As ever, the class have been very productive regarding their learning across a wide range of subjects.

Everyone (myself included!) is really enjoying the whole-class text 'Goodnight Mr Tom' and this week we explored in detail the character of Mr Tom Oakley and wrote in role in the style of a diary entry about how is life has turned upside down since a young evacuee has come to live with him.

In Numeracy, Year 5 finished their topic linked to Place Value, including rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 100, 10,000 and 100,000 whilst Year 6 looked at factors and multiples. 

Topic learning this week was fun, as it involved investigating Maidstone past and present, including looking at old photos from the turn of the 20th century when the trams came to Maidstone. 

In Science this week we investigated vertebrates and invertebrates and PE took us onto the field for football and the playground for basketball.

On the subject of exercise, I need to mention the class who were unbelievably helpful and sensible Tuesday morning during the KS1 Sports Day. Each child was allocated to a specific activity and they demonstrated the task to the younger children and kept score. Their help was invaluable.
