Week 6
This week in Maths, we have been learning to add and use our number bonds knowledge from last week to help us. We have learnt that adding means putting everything ALTOGETHER. Year 1s have been adding 1 digit numbers to numbers up to 20 and Year 2s have been adding a 1 digit number to any number. We have also learnt how to use a number line to add numbers.
In Science this week we have been investigating how the weather changes between Summer and Autumn. We have learnt that the weather is what the sky is doing and that in Autumn it gets cooler, rainier and windier. This week, we also spotted some fog! We made a rain gauge and we are going to measure how much it rains over the next couple of weeks to compare it to the weather in Summer.
In History we learnt about Maidstone Zoo that used to be in Tovil, Maidstone. We learnt that Sir Garrard Tyrwhitt Drake was a significant individual in our locality as he set up Maidstone's first and only zoo. We learnt about Daisy and Gert the elephants that used to be in the zoo and how in the past children could have their photos take on top of lions! We then designed posters explaining why people should visit the zoo.
In Art we have learnt about a new artist called Lowry and have been learning to draw silhouettes in his style. We had a photograph of the playground and added silhouettes, making sure that those closer to where the photograph was taken looked bigger than the ones in the distance.
It has been a jam-packed week of superb learning. Please remember that it is our school trip next Tuesday. Children may dress up in Victorian clothes. If they don't want to, they must wear school uniform.
