Term 2, Week 4

Welcome parents one and all to our class weekly blog! We are now over half way through the term with lots of lovely events happening leading up to Christmas. The first one happened today; the Carolathon in Fremlin Walk. The Choir loved it! PLEASE make sure you are reading the newsletters as this will point you towards all these special Christmas events.

In Literacy this week, Rowan Class have been engaged in grammar tasks, linked to The HighwayMan poem. We investigated both synonyms and antonyms (similar vocabulary and their opposites) and made good use of both dictionaries and a thesaurus to further our understanding. Lots of children getting on to challenges in their learning.

In Numeracy, Year 6 have been looking a fraction of amounts and SAT's style practice exam questions whilst Year 5 have been investigating addition of fractions greater than 1 (improper fractions and mixed numbers).

Science this week was particularly enjoyable, as the class had the chance to 'invent' their own new species of animal! There were some very weird and wonderful hybrid creations, which the children described and sketched into their Science books.

In RE, we used value sorting cards in a thought-provoking lesson to ascertain certain values that the children would prioritise over others. So many lovely ideas with respect and love being some of our top values!

Rivers has been the general topic of our topic learning in Term 2, and this week we investigated major rivers around the UK, drew a map of the islands and accurately placed the rivers and major cities that sat on or very close to said river. This lesson definitely helped with the class' understanding of locality and where some of the UK's major cities (and rivers!) can be found.

Finally, in DT we have computer designed our bridges ready to begin making them on Monday!

Have a great weekend everyone.
