Welcome to Oak Class

Hello :)

A huge welcome to both the children in Oak Class and parents. I can't wait to share the amazing learning that is taking place with you!

Literacy

We have begun to look at a new focus text called 'The Pirate Cruncher' which Oak Class love. We have looked at the sequencing of the story and have started to look at using this to think about our sentence structure. We have tried writing our own stories based on a treasure map this week and begun to look at applying spelling patterns to our writing.

Phonics

We have had our phonics sessions daily this week and have loved learning and reinforcing our sounds. Everyone is Oak Class is really trying with their reading and I have been so thrilled to see so many reading records. Please remember that reading records should be in school DAILY and are collected every Friday so adults can see what Oak Class are reading at home. Please find below a link to a parental guide that can help you to support your child's reading at home.

If you have any questions please contact Miss Beamish at the end of the school day.

Maths

This week in maths we have been looking at our place value. We have looked at what each digit in a 2 digit number is worth and have also looked at partitioning numbers in different ways. We can begun to focus on our times tables and this needs to be reinforced at home. This week, your child will bring home their TT Rockstars login details in their reading record, please ensure that you are allowing them time to access this as often as possible to support their recall.

Afternoons

This week we have started our geography lessons. We have looked at naming and locating the seven continents on the world and thoroughly enjoyed singing our song to help us remember them all! If you would like to share this with your child, please use the below link

We have also begun to look at Islam in our R.E. lessons. We have linked this to our PSHE lessons on family and relationships to discuss and understand the importance of people in our lives.

In computing, we have looked at the technology around the classroom, school and what we have at home and this helps us to complete our learning. We have also continued to use ICT in our other lessons, supporting our times tables and our phonics learning.
