Term 1Week 4 27.9.24

This week we have continued to watch Goodnight Mister Tom for Literacy. We have finally been introduced to William's mum and we don't like her. She's evil. We are really enjoying the story and can't wait to watch the rest of the film. We have written character descriptions for William's mum and compared her to Mr Tom. We have also written a diary entry and explored William's emotions through several scenes: excitement at his birthday party, sadness as he has to go back to London, his mother has called him home.

In Maths, Year 5 have been adding and subtracting using column method. They have been using rounding to check calculations and the inverse as a way of checking answers. Year 6 have been recapping on addition and subtraction using mental recall strategies and using column method. They have been looking at factors and multiples of given numbers and solving problems involving these.

in Science, we learnt about Carl Linnaeus. He introduced the classification system. We used a variety of sweets to help us to begin to understand classification. We sorted them into different groups and then asked questions about them. This will help us as we move on to classifying plants and animals.

In our topic of Time Tunnel, we have been looking at how propaganda was used during the war in the form of posters and in Art we have been looking at artistes during World War II.

We also managed to fit in making and decorating cakes for the MacMillan cake sale held on Friday 27th September.

Thank you to everyone who supported this event by either making or buying cakes.
