In Literacy this week we have started to read The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. We have watched a video retelling it. We have read the first 5 stanzas and summarised them. We have also written a description for The Highwayman. This poem is a narrative poem with lots of figurative language, which we will be exploring. We are also going to be focusing on the sequence of the poem and how it flows as a story.
In Maths, Year 6 have been looking at how to convert improper fractions to mixed number fractions and vice versa. We have used this knowledge to multiply fractions by whole numbers and fractions by fractions. Year 5 children have also been looking at fractions and how to convert improper fractions to mixed number fractions.
In Science, we have continued to look at Living Things including their Habitats. This week we played Guess Zoo where we had to use our knowledge of animals to answer questions and guess the animal. This will help us to think about questioning when we classify next week. We also played Odd One Out and had to identify an animal that could be the odd one out and why. We then looked at some websites where we could classify animals and plants online.
In Geography, we drew the journey of a river, starting with how it is formed and where its journey ends. We learnt the different parts of a river. Ask us what the river's mouth and source is.
In DT we looked at the different types of bridges, and the different parts of a bridge.
PE this term is on Monday and Friday. This term we have Tag Rugby with the PASS coach and Fitness.
Don't forget to sign up for Parents' Evening next week. I look forward to meeting you.
Have a lovely weekend.
