Welcome to Cedar's weekly blog.
This week has been a busy one for learning.
In Literacy, we have been focusing on language: synonyms and antonyms and finding these using The HighwayMan text. We finished the week by summarising parts of the poem and will be completing the poem next week by writing it as a story ready for our hot write story in week 6.
In Maths, Year 5 have continued to look at fractions. They have been learning how to add fractions including mixed number fractions. Year 6 have finalised their learning on fractions by revising the strategies and skills used to calculate fractions. They also completed an end of year assessment as next week we move on to measures.
In Science, we continued to classify animals, but this week we looked at unusual and weird animals that don't always look like the animal group they actually belong to.
In RE, we looked at values and how as individuals we would rank values by their importance. This led to important discussions.
In DT, we used Tinkercad to design a bridge which focused on our computing skills. The Year 5 were excited by this as they had not used it before. This is continuing on with our bridge designing which we will be building next week. Thank you to everyone who has sent in recycling materials so the children can make them.
In Geography, we have been finding out about rivers in the UK and the cities they run through. We discussed why cities were built near or on rivers and found out facts about them and their location by making reference to the map of the UK.
