What a fun and busy term we have had!
We had our trip to the Science Museum, World Book Day, Year 6 had a SATs practice week, dance and tennis in PE has been fun, we've had great music lessons, we got really creative in Art and had a visit from the Easter Bunny.
This week in Literacy we have finished reading Cosmic and learnt about the subject and object in a sentence. This has helped us to understand the active and passive voice by knowing the order they appear in the sentence. We have looked at subject/verb agreement too.
In Maths, Year 5 have continued to focus on Statistics, looking at the different ways information can be recorded and interpreted such as 2 way tables, reading timetables and line graphs. Year 6 have been learning about angles. Recapping the names of angles, how to measure angles with a protractor, how to find a missing angle when some angles are known and recognising the angles on a straight line and within a triangle, square or rectangle.
In Science, we learnt about the phases of the moon and how to recognise them. We learnt how the moon orbits the Earth which is why we see the different phases of the moon. We also linked History to Science by looking at star constellations and learning how to recognise them and who or what they are named after. Please encourage your child to look at the moon and stars over the holidays and ask them what phase the moon is in and what is happening. Also can they recognise any of the star constellations?
In Music, we learnt to keep a rhythm and beat using unpitched instruments to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The children were amazing. We finished the lesson with some of the children playing the keyboard, showing us how to play a pitched instrument.
In PE, we completed the term with a game of Dodge/Bench Ball which the children loved. We finished Tennis with playing singles and doubles.
In RE we found out how Christian Aid supports around the world during a crisis which concluded our learning on whether Art or charity was more important in the religions of Islam and Christianity.
Social Media
We have had a number of issues arising due to social media. The children are in various group chats on WhatsApp and Snapchat with some children being very unkind to others. Please talk to your child about online safety and monitor their phones everyday. We will support any issues arising where we can, despite them happening outside of school, and speak to both parents and children.
