Cherry Class Blog Term 2 Week 3

Hi everyone and welcome to our latest Cherry Class blog! (and welcome to anyone new, who has accessed this blog via the QR code on our back door at school).

Another busy week for everyone, where we continued with our literacy learning linked to the classic poem 'The Highwayman'. This week we studied, in detail, the use of figurative language in the poem, including the use of similes and metaphors, alliteration and personification. The children also had the opportunity to use an art medium (such as water colours, pastels, etc.) to create their own favourite scene and describe it using 'fresh' figurative language.

In Numeracy both year groups continue with their learning of fractions, albeit at different stages of the curriculum. Year 6 looked at fraction division and multiplication, whereas Year 5 looked at addition and subtraction.

In Science, the class, this week, used classification keys and sensible yes/no questions to classify various animals from a range of animal groups.

In RE we looked at Christian values and the children looked at how thoughts can lead onto positive actions.

In Geography we investigated how the use of the river Medway through Maidstone has changed so much over the years and compared two eras including the reasons why.

In PE, the playground was too icy Thursday morning for tag-rugby, so instead we used the hall for yoga and an energetic fitness session!

Have a lovely weekend everyone
