Another busy week of learning has flown by. This week the children have been busy rehearsing for their class assembly on Friday, the children chose their favourite piece of work to share with everyone. We are extremely proud of the children with their resilience and their determination with their learning this week.
In Literacy, the children have read the story 'The Way Back Home'; they have used the book to help them learn about predictions (what we think is going to happen next), character feelings and adding speech to characters in the story.
In Maths, the children have continued their learning about time. They learnt about the minute hand and the hour hand on a clock and were learning how to tell time to o'clock and half past. The children made their own clocks and used these to work collaboratively with partners to show the different times.
In Music, the children learnt about the beats in a piece of music and represented the beats with different instruments. Some children learnt about playing their instrument on beat 1 and 3, whilst others learnt about playing their instrument on beat 2 and 4. Then another group of children with different instruments created the background beat that went through the piece of music constantly.
In DT, the children used their boxes to begin creating their moving vehicle, the children covered their boxes in paper and then decorated as they chose to. When covering their boxes the children learnt a couple of methods to cover the box, one of these was to draw around the side of their box and cut out the shape required. The other method was to roll the box in the paper, covering the sides as they did this. As they constructed, the children discussed the best way they found for covering the box.
In RE, the children learnt about the Jewish holiday 'Hanukkah'. The children compared the Jewish holiday Hanukkah to Christmas.
In Computing, the children used their plans from a few weeks ago to create an algorithm for characters on Scratch Junior; the children learnt about adding speech and movement for their characters.
In PE, the children learnt about a pull throw, they learnt how this type of throw is often used to throw a javelin as far as possible. The children used balls and beanbags with the pull throw to get them as far away as possible, they tried to beat their target each time they threw the beanbag / ball.
In Science, the children learnt how to make a paper aeroplane. Before they made the final plane the children had to think carefully about the material they would use. They had the choice of small, medium or large paper or card to make their plane from. Once made, the children tested the flight distance of their planes and determined which plane material and size worked best.
Have a wonderful weekend.
