Term 1, Week 1 6/9/24

What a lovely start to the new school year!

We are gradually getting to know each other. New friendships are being formed. Older friendships are being rekindled. We are learning new rules and the routines of Rowan Class.

This week we have discussed our summer holidays and focused on the journeys we have been on. This led us to plan a story involving a journey which we then wrote at the end of the week. Next week we will start our story called 'Goodnight Mister Tom'.

In maths, we have split into our Year 5 and Year 6 groups. We have focused on place value and number so that we understand what the value of each digit is in a number up to 7 digits.

We have started science. Our theme is Living Things and their Habitats, we will be exploring this up until Christmas. This week we consolidated our knowledge of the 5 main animal groups: mammals, reptiles, fish, birds and amphibians.

We have also begun our Computing learning, looking at systems around us that get jobs done.

Due to the weather we did Bench Ball for PE. This was a great opportunity for the class to work together as a team and for me to look at their physical skills and attributes.

In history we have been looking at chronology and time lines as we begin our topic called Time Tunnel which is all about WW2.
