This week in Literacy, we finished watching the film Goodnight Mister Tom and we were relieved to discover a happy ending. The children have loved this story. They cheered when Mister Tom rescued William, they booed the mum because she was horrible but above all, they have learnt what life was like during the Second World War. They learnt lots of facts about World War 2 and The Blitz. We ended the week with some drama. We worked in groups to rehearse a scene from the story and then performed it to the rest of the class. The children were amazing. Next week we will focus on how to use punctuation in our writing.
In Maths, Year 5 have been looking at prime, square and cube numbers. They used this knowledge to investigate a problem at the end of the week. Year 6 have learnt about BODMAS, how to use known facts to support their mental recall to solve problems and calculations and to apply this knowledge.
DID YOU KNOW THERE IS A YEAR 6 MATHS PAGE TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD ON OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE? IT IS IN THE CHILDREN'S SECTION CALLED YEAR 6 SATS RESOURCES.
In History this week, we looked at the impact that The Blitz had on the people living in Britain, especially in London, and the consequences of The Blitz. We presented our information though posters or PPTs.
In Science, we played Guess Zoo. We had an animal, then we had to ask yes/no questions to find out about the animal so we could guess what it was using our knowledge of the 5 main animal groups and their characteristics. Then we wrote riddle descriptions about chosen animals. These will be written up to go on display.
In RE, we discussed the Humanistic approach to life and how live should be lived to the full. We have had some excellent discussions.
In PE, we continue to work on our Football and Basketball skills.
REMEMBER: you should be using TT Rockstars, Ed Shed and Fiction Express at home to support your learning!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Bowles, Miss Rackley and Mrs Morris
