Term 2, Week 5 (6/12/24)

Welcome to Rowan Class' blog for this week.
This week, Rowan Class has enjoyed beginning to countdown to Christmas with our class elf, Sprig, and finding out which Christmas shape is on our advent calendar each day. We have also begun to practice for our KS2 carol concert that will take place in the last week of term.
For English, we have enjoyed writing stories based on the Highwayman Poem using all of our learnt knowledge. The adults have been very impressed at the stories. The children are beginning to sound like published authors – well done all!
In Maths, Year 5 have been looking at subtracting fractions. We moved on to looking at subtracting fractions that ‘break the whole’, too. Year 6 have looked at measurements, uses of measurements and how to convert measurements.
In Science, the children enjoyed combining different animals to create a new one. A lot of fun was had in creating these hybrid animals; it was lovely to see so many children enjoying this session. After this, the children created a classification key for their new animals.
In DT, the children have now built their bridges – it was great to then test their bridges to see which was the strongest. One could even hold a child!
In PE, the child enjoyed a HIT workout with Joe Wicks for our fitness topic. A lot of effort and sweating, but it was great fun. We continue to look at tag rugby and the children are now using their newly learnt skills to play a game of Tag Rugby.
Some children went out yesterday (5th December) and represented the school in football; well done to all for showing respect to other adults and children during this time. Plus, a big congratulations for winning your match!
Don’t forget the disco tonight.
