It has been a lovely first week (for me) back. I have enjoyed talking to the children about baby April and feel very touched by all of your well-wishes – thank you.
This week in Literacy, we read the Greek myth about Medusa and Perseus. We started the week by reading the story and summarising it. We then looked at Medusa as a Gorgon and brainstormed adjectives and phrases to describe her. We then wrote a character description about her. We ended the week by reading the story about Perseus and how he slayed Medusa to save his mum from marrying a horrible king.
In Maths, Year 5 have been exploring regular and irregular polygons and 3D shapes. They have been learning all about their properties: number of faces, edges, vertices in 3D shapes. They also did an end of topic assessment and finished the week looking at co-ordinates. Year 6 have been plotting co-ordinates to complete or make a polygon. They have also been looking at how to translate a shape within 4 quadrants. We ended the week by looking at reflection and drawing the reflected shapes.
In PSHE, we looked at community and how other’s contribute to society.
In Music, we looked at how important music was in Ancient Greek times; how it was made and its purpose.
In PE, we have continued to play cricket. This week we focused on our receiving skills and practicing how to hold a bat to hit the ball and the role of the fielder. We have looked at OAA and playing team games.
Next week, it is SATS week for the Year 6. There will be classroom changes for the morning. Year 5 will all be together completing their Literacy learning in the hall whilst the Year 6 sit their tests. We will be following our usual routine in the afternoons.
Year 6 are invited to a special SATS week breakfast club. This will be on, on Monday (12.5.25) - Thursday 15.5.25) from 8:15am in the Gold Room. Please come and join us.
Mote Park
Next Friday (16.5.25) Years 5 and 6 will be going to Mote Park for the morning. We will play games, and go to the play area to mark the end of SATS week. The children should be wearing their PE kits and bring a water bottle and healthy snack. We will return to school for lunch and have an afternoon of activities too.
I would like to wish all of our Year 6 children good luck in their SATS next week.
Have a lovely weekend.
