Welcome to Cedar Class.
What a hot, long week it has been. Some of the year 6 children sat their 11+ tests. Everyone has been getting to know each other and the class routines and our expectations. We are feeling really positive that this will be an amazing year.
In Literacy, to ease the children back in to school gently, we read Mama Panya's Pancakes. The children used the story to write a prediction, a character description and a summary. We used the internet to research facts about Kenya and Africa as this is where the story was set.
In Maths, we linked it to the story and the children created tally charts, pie charts and bar graphs to represent favourite toppings on pancakes. They used all four operations to solve money problems and how to increase and decrease recipe ingredients for measures.
We also looked at the South African artist Esther Mahlangu and her art work and her influence on African culture. We created our own sketches and finished the week painting. We also had some pancakes with some of our favourite toppings.
