Reading in Cherry Class
At Park Way, we encourage the children to read for pleasure. In Cherry Class, the children will be taught reading and inference skills. The children will read daily and will read with an adult once a week. They will be taught how to understand unfamiliar words and to make inference with confidence. The children should be writing in their reading records every time they read, both at home and at school. These will be monitored weekly.
Children should be reading at home daily for at least 30 minutes. They should be encouraged to find the meanings of unknown words and should be asked about what they are reading. A booklet to support reading at home will be sent home.
