Week beginning 11th September

Our second week back has been jam packed full of learning!

In Literacy, we have been developing our story writing techniques by planning and noting down our initial ideas before writing our own adventure story about a boat. This is in preparation for our focus text Kensuke's Kingdom which we will begin to read next week.

Both Year 5 and 6 have been focusing on place value this week. Year 5 have been focusing on numbers up to at least 1,000,000 whereas Year 6 have been focusing on numbers up to 10,000,000. All the children are identifying the value of digits based on their position in a number and are using their knowledge to make comparisons and order numbers.

In Science this week, we started learning about how plants reproduce. We dissected and drew and labelled the different parts of the plant and the reproductive organs within flowers.

In Geography, we began identifying the human and physical features of Cape Verde. These islands will form part of the narrative in our Literacy text.
