Week beginning 6th November

In Literacy this week, we have been looking at a range of poems from the Bright Bursts collection by Matt Goodfellow. We have performed poetry as well as looked at rhyming schemes and syllables and ended the week creating our own poems. Children had the opportunity to think creatively and choose the topic of their poem. We started jotting down our unique thoughts and ideas and turned it into a poem.

In Maths, Year 6 the children have been learning to add and subtract fractions. They used their times table knowledge to give the fractions the same denominators and add mixed numbers. Year 5 have also been learning about fractions with a focus on equivalent fraction. We used our times tables knowledge to decide whether the fractions are equivalent or not.

In History, we have been learning about the House of Wisdom from the Early Islamic Empire. We discussed what subjects they studied, the reason why they had a vast number of books in their library and why this is important to us today.

In PE, we are beginning to learn how to pass a ball back in rugby and even how to score a try. The children are becoming more confident working as a team and are learning to communicate effectively. We will also be looking at fitness and how different exercises work different body parts and the effect it has on heart rate.

In Science this week, the children made links with Maths by creating graphs on Excel to show different sets of data about gestation, litter size and life span. We spoke about patterns they noticed and concluded larger animals need to gestate longer to support their development.

In RE, we have been looking at equality and what religion can teach us about treating people equally. In PSHE, we have been learning about positive sleep habits and the effect sleep has on the body.
