Term 1 Week 3 22.9.23

In Literacy this week we wrote a prediction for Kensuke's Kingdom, had a debate about whether we would like to sail around the world for a year and why and we also did some research on Cape Verde ready to inform our writing next week.

In Maths, both year 5 and year 6 have been learning about place value. Year 5 have been learning to read, write, order and compare numbers up to 1,000,000 whilst year 6 have been looking at numbers up to 10,000,000. We have been learning to round numbers to 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000, 100,000 and 1,000,000. We have been comparing numbers and finding their position on a number line.

Our topic learning this term is called Earth as an Island. We have been learning about longitude and latitude and reading atlases to discover how to locate parts of the world.

In Science we are looking at Living Things and their Habitats. This week we looked at the reproduction of asexual plants such as the pine tree. We wrote about how it reproduces and that there are male and female cones.

In PE, for this term, we have PE on a Thursday and a Friday. On Thursday the children will learn football and on Friday they will learn Basketball. Please wear a PE kit and not your own sporting clothes.

Reminders

The children should have water to drink in their bottles for the classroom, not squash.

Reading books should be written in when the children have read.

The PE kit is their team colour T shirt and black/navy shorts NOT tracksuits.

TTRockstars and EdShed are our home learning Apps, please go on these weekly. There are assignments on EdShed.

Well done to Cedar Class for an amazing assembly. You made us proud.

Have a lovely weekend.
