Week beginning 25th September

This week in Literacy, we continued reading Kensuke's Kingdom and learnt how Michael became lost at sea and ended up on an island with his dog Stella. We wrote postcard in role as Michael to his friend about the countries he had visited before he went overboard. We also researched and wrote reports about the different animals Michael will have seen in Africa and Australia. Lastly, we wrote a diary from Michael's point of view after he washed up on the deserted island.

In Maths, we are continuing our study of place value. Year 6 are applying this to addition and subtraction making sure their numbers are correctly positioned for column addition and subtraction. Whereas, Year 5 have been rounding numbers on a number line. We all found this a bit tricky but more practice and great resilience helped us to become more confident.

In Science this week, we looked at life cycles of amphibians, mammals, insects and birds. We discussed the similarities and differences between the groups and how some animals go through metamorphosis.

In Geography, we compared an area in the UK with an area in North America. We looked at climate, physical and human features and how these change based on where the country is.

Our class assembly was this week and I was so proud of all the children and the hard work and effort children have put into learning their lines and sharing their learning! Well done Rowan Class.
