Welcome to Term 6. We hope you had a lovely break with the sunshine. What a contrast to this week! The children were enthralled by the thunder storm and rain this week.
School Residential is next week (10-12.6.26) Miss Churchill has given you the information. School will be as normal for those who are not going on the residential.
This term is a busy one for our Year 6 as they prepare for secondary school. There will be visits from the secondary schools coming in to meet them and they will have transition day/s in July.
In English, we are continuing to read the book City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. The plot is thickening and we are making more links to what we have read and what is happening now with the characters. We have been making predictions about events in the story.
This week in Maths, Year 5 have been learning to add and subtract decimal numbers with the same and different number of decimal places. They have been learning to multiply decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. Year 6 have been rehearsing for their Year 6 production of The Pirates of the Currybean: they are really enjoying it and buzzing when they are talking about it. When they are not rehearsing they are problem solving and consolidating their maths knowledge. This week we have looked at graphs, plotting temperature and rainfall, converting miles and KM and looking at budgets and costs of holidays.
As a way into our topic Going for Gold, we explored what we would need to do in order to represent Team GB or a chosen country in the Olympics. We chose a sport and wrote about what our training would like and how we would prepare ourselves for it.
In History, we learnt about the history of the Olympics: when they started, where they started and why they started. We learnt about the different events that took place. Did you know that it was only men who could compete in the early Olympics?
In PE this term we are learning to play Handball and Athletics in preparation for sports day.
