This week in our Literacy we have been planning and rewriting a story based on Charlie and the Chocolate factory. We looked at how to use our learning from across the term to describe the exterior and interior of a chocolate factory we imagined and designed using AI. We then met four new golden ticket winners each with their own terrible traits. The children have written some amazing story openings based on the book and have been so engaged with the text this term. We finished the week by watching the 1971 version of the film and looking at the similarities and differences.
In Maths, Year 3 moved on to look at money, recapping our knowledge of different coins and making different amounts. We converted pence to pounds, understanding that 100p makes £1 and used the £ and p signs accurately. We finished the week with a visit to the 'shops' where we added two or three items together to find the total amount spent. Year 4 have continued looking at money. We have looked at methods for adding different amounts of money, including converting pence to pounds and pence. We also looked at how to use subtraction to find amounts of change. Finally we combined all of our knowledge and looked at problem solving questions which required more than one step to solve. Please remember all Year 4 children will be sitting their multiplication check in the first weeks back after half term so make sure to keep practicing over the holidays.
In Geography we looked at how to use our learning from across the term to create our own maps of the local area, including key landmarks. In DT we built our kites using the designs we had created. We then got a chance to evaluate and fly them on our trip to Mote Park. The children have also had their chance to earn their swimming badges during their lesson this week.
We hope you have a lovely half term break,
Mr Saunders, Mrs Hendry and Miss Parkes.
