Term 6, Week 3 (19/6/26)

It has been another busy and exciting week in class! ๐Ÿ˜Š Our Year 5 and 6 boys took part in a football tournament โšฝโ€”although they didnโ€™t bring home the trophy this time, they showed fantastic teamwork and had a brilliant day of football. Well done, boys! ๐Ÿ‘

We are also eagerly following the World Cup ๐ŸŒ and updating our class chart daily. There is lots of excitement as everyone keeps a close eye on how their sweepstake country is getting on! ๐Ÿ†

๐Ÿ“ข Reminders
Please see the school newsletter for important dates and times of events this term. Also, keep an eye out for competitions and donโ€™t forget to check the class window for the Jam Jar activity for the Festival of Fun! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ“š English

We are nearly at the end of City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau ๐Ÿ“–. Our focus has been on exploring the charactersโ€™ emotions as they prepare to leave Ember. The children have produced some excellent work, including letters โœ‰๏ธ, messages, fact files, and even WANTED posters! ๐Ÿšจ

Next week, we will complete our hot writes and finish the story. To round things off, we will watch the film ๐ŸŽฌ and make comparisonsโ€”very exciting!

๐Ÿ”ข Maths

Year 5 have been working hard on negative numbers โž–, including:

  • Counting through 0 in ones and multiples
  • Comparing and ordering negative numbers
  • Finding the difference between negative numbers

Year 6 have been busy rehearsing ๐ŸŽญ for their production of The Pirates of the Currybean. They are thoroughly enjoying it and are full of enthusiasm! The crew has also been preparing props ๐ŸŽจ and gathering resources. When not rehearsing, they have been problem solving and consolidating their maths skills.

๐ŸŒ Topic โ€“ Going for Gold

We have been designing a new Olympic sports venue ๐ŸŸ๏ธ. The children will soon bring these designs to life by creating 3D models using TinkerCad ๐Ÿ’ปโ€”we canโ€™t wait to see the results!

โ›ช RE

This week, we explored how art is used to represent Jesus and stories from the Bible. A special mention to Kayak for her AMAZING art work based on a Bible passage. ๐ŸŽจ

๐Ÿ”ฌ Science

In Science, we investigated gravity through practical experiments:

  • ๐Ÿ€ Dropping different-sized balls from the same height
  • ๐Ÿ’ง Dropping bottles with varying amounts of water

These are just some of the 6 experiments that were conducted. We then wrote up our findings. A special mention to Felicity โญ for an excellent explanation, noting how mass affects gravitational pull. Well done to all our scientists! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ
