This week the children have stayed in Ivy Class for the majority of the week due to timetable changes with Year 6 SATS. The children have coped well with all the changes this week and have taken it all in their stride.
English:
The children have completed lots of phonics activities. The children have practised reading words from some past phonics screening papers. They looked at the words to identify the special friends in the words and then tried to read them. They practised reading cvc words containing the letters – a, e, i, o, u. The children have also practised using some of their special friends to write words using some Set 2 and Set 3 sounds.
Maths:
The children have been consolidating their previous learning. They have practised identifying and recalling their number bonds to 10 and to 20 if they were able. They have been working on identifying different coins and trying to combine coins to make given amounts. As the week has gone on the children have also practised their counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Science:
In Science this week, the children learnt about deciduous and evergreen trees and used this to help them learn and identify different trees. The children then began to try and identify different trees around the school grounds, unfortunately the weather decided to turn on us so we were unable to complete this lesson. This will be continued next week.
DT:
In DT this week, the children put their designs into action. They have been thinking about planters and using recycled materials to create these. This week the children have been making their designs, they learnt about how to cut their chosen resources to make the shape required. They then used different resources to decorate their planters, such as paint, sharpies and tissue paper to complete their designs.
RE:
In RE this week, the children learnt about the beliefs that Christians have and how this might be similar or different to some of the beliefs and ideas that the children have.
PSHE:
In PSHE this week, the children learnt about similarities and differences. They thought about themselves and things that were special about themselves. They then shared these ideas with a small group of children and thought about things that are similar with each other and then those that make them different to each other.
Just to make you all aware there have been changes in the classroom with the children now being split across Ivy and the Oasis. This means that we will now be changing reading books on a Friday. Therefore, if the children can have read their book and return it to school on a Friday, we will then change it ready for the weekend. Thank you.
Please can you make sure that you are accessing the class page on TEAMs, as there are often important messages put on there for you as parents to be aware of.
Have a wonderful weekend.
