Wow, that's it the final week of the school year is over with. Firstly, as a team we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their ongoing support with all areas of the children's learning. Everything we do in school is possible as a result of the ongoing support from you as parents.
All the children have made us incredibly proud with all their effort across every area of their learning. Their phonics has been a huge target area for all the children. They have all risen to every challenge thrown at them, particularly working on identifying as many sounds as possible and showing an awareness of alternatives. The children have also been working hard to develop their skills of segmenting and blending accurately.
In English this week, we have been trying to develop the children’s handwriting as much as possible in preparation for September. Anything you can do to continue supporting the children with this will greatly benefit them when they move into Year 2. The children have also been thinking about what they have enjoyed learning this year and writing this in their books.
In Maths this week, the children have been learning about half past the hour. They have learnt that the minute hand on the clock move from the 12 to the 6. Then the hour hand sits between the numbers instead of directly on the numbers. The children have learnt there are 60 minutes in an hour and 30 minutes in half an hour.
On Monday afternoon, the children enjoyed watching the Year 6 production ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’. The children really enjoyed the singing and dancing during this performance. Well done to all the Year 6 children.
During Tuesday afternoon, Ivy Class joined up with Holly Class for an afternoon of PE based games and activities on the field. The children spent time consolidating some of the skills they have learnt during their lessons this year.
Wednesday afternoon, the children went to their new classrooms and spent the afternoon with their teacher for September. For the children in Ivy Class, they will either be in Oak class with Mrs Daniells or Holly Class with Miss Muddassir. From September Oak Class will be in the current Ivy classroom, so the children will be in an environment familiar to them.
As the week has drawn to a close the children have helped around the classroom to ensure the room is as clean and tidy for September as possible. They have helped make sure puzzles and games have all the required pieces, resources are as organised as possible and the classroom is clear from as much of their own possessions as possible.
Mrs Russell will be sure to bring baby Russell (boy/girl) into school to visit all the children some time in the new academic year.
It has been a wonderful year teaching Ivy Class and once again we would all like to say a huge thank you for everything. Have a wonderful summer holiday.
