Term 6 Week 3

In Maths this week, Year 3 consolidated all understanding of time, representing time by drawing accurate hands on a clock and reading given times on a clock. We broke down telling the time to 5-minute intervals, by focusing on the 'past' times in one session and the 'to' times in another, before combining them together. The children have worked really hard to tell the time, please keep this up at home whenever possible.  We finished the week by identifying if events take seconds, hours or minutes. Year 4 also consolidated their understanding of time by converting given times from 12-hour analogue clocks to 24-hour digital clocks. They solved problems, identifying the operations required and using an appropriate method, alongside their knowledge of converting time, to solve it.

In Literacy we secured our grammar skills, working on the use of commas in a list, the word order in sentences and accurately spelling and using homophones such as ‘aloud’ and ‘allowed’.

In History we learnt about ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses and created ‘Top Trump’ cards to show their qualities. We learnt about Zeus, King of the Gods and his special symbol of the thunderbolt and Hera, Queen of the Gods and Goddess of marriage. We thought about who our favourite Gods/Goddesses were and used sentence stems to give reasons why.

In PE, we continued to develop our skills in preparation for Sports Day which is happening next Wednesday 24th June AM. We practised running skills, making sure to start on the starting line and to stay in our own lane when running. We had a few false starts and had to blow the whistle to restart the race! In Computing, we took on the role of animators, creating our own storyboards and characters ready to turn these into a stop-frame animations. We had a design brief that these items needed to be achievable.  We had some great ideas such as footballers scoring goals, bees moving into the forest and stickmen playing catch at a beach. In Spanish we consolidated our knowledge of 12 key classroom items and used these, along side the verb ‘I have’ to explain what we have in our pencil case. In Art, we continued our work on landscapes, thinking carefully about the shade and tone of colours and how to represent these accurately. We created another landscape using water colours.
