🌀️ Weekly Class Update

Happy May! What a lovely week of weather (apart from the slightly cooler Tuesday πŸ§₯)! Sunshine always makes coming into school that little bit brighter and helps set a positive tone for learning across the week 🌈. Don't forget that it is Bank Holiday on Monday (4th May) and the school will not be open.

πŸ“˜ English

In English, we continued reading The City of Ember. The children wrote a diary entry from the perspective of Lina, one of the main characters, focusing carefully on thoughts, feelings, and events πŸ–ŠοΈπŸ“–. We then practised our editing skills, checking for improvements in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and vocabulary.
To deepen our understanding of the text, we predicted what might happen next and discussed what Doon (the other main character) may have discovered, using clues from the story to justify our ideas πŸ”πŸ’.

πŸ”’ Maths

  • Year 6 have been working hard on plotting, translating, and reflecting coordinates across four quadrants, developing both accuracy and reasoning skills πŸ“ˆ.
  • Year 5 continued their learning on angles, calculating angles around a point (360Β°) and exploring the properties of 3D shapes, including faces, edges, and vertices πŸ“πŸ§Š.

πŸ”¬ Science

In Science, we investigated how light travels πŸ”¦. Using torches and card, we explored whether light could be blocked or bent, learning that light travels in straight lines unless reflected or refracted. The children really enjoyed this experiment! ✨

πŸƒ PE

In PE, we continued with OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activities) through team-based challenges that focused on collaboration and communication 🀝. Alongside this, we also practised cricket skills, working on accurate aiming, hitting the stumps, and controlled throwing and batting 🏏.

πŸ™ RE

In RE, we learned about the Hindu Mandir and home worship, comparing their purposes and features. We discussed similarities and differences, thinking carefully about how faith is practised in different settings πŸ•‰οΈπŸ .

πŸ› οΈ DT

In Design and Technology, we continued designing our 3D models using TinkerCad, preparing them for 3D printing. The children are developing fantastic digital design skills and thinking carefully about structure and purpose πŸ–₯οΈπŸ”§.

🎢 Music

In Music, we explored Gamelan music from Bali, listening to the unique layered sounds and rhythms created by traditional instruments 🌏.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ Spanish

In Spanish, we have been learning how to describe where we live and which room we are in within our houses, building confidence with new vocabulary and sentence structures πŸ‘πŸ—£οΈ.
