Term 5 week 3

This week, just like every week, the children have been incredibly busy with all of their learning and despite it only being a 4-day week, we have packed in as much learning as possible.

English:

In English this week, the children have been learning about adjectives and verbs. They thought of different adjectives and used them to describe the characters in our story ‘The Last Wolf’. They then put these adjectives into sentences and tried their best to remember their learning from last week – "big at the start, dot at the end." They learnt about verbs and explored how they explain what we are doing. The children looked at the characters in the story and thought about what they are doing. They then wrote the verbs they identified into sentences, trying really hard to remember their punctuation.

Maths:

In Maths this week, the children have been learning about money. To begin with they explored the value of coins with counters showing one dot, two dots, five dots and ten dots. These counters are to support the children with their understanding of coins up to 10p. The children were then introduced to all the coins. They used these to begin exploring making purchases in toy shops and ordering them from the smallest to largest value.

Science:

In Science this week, the children identified wild and garden plants. They named some plants they are familiar with and then learnt about the difference between a wild plant and a garden plant. The children explored the school grounds trying to identify some of the plants they have learnt about.

Art:

In Art this week, the children continued to look carefully at the sculptures of David Best. The children drew some examples of some of his work and whilst doing this included some of his specific features in their drawings. The children began to think about their own temple in the style of David Best. They thought about some of the shapes and patterns they might like to include in their own designs.

RE:

In RE this week, the children learnt how different people have their own opinions of what God is like. They worked in groups to talk about their own thoughts and ideas of God, what he is like and what he means to them.

PSHE:

In PSHE this week, the children learnt about the needs of younger children. They learnt how to look after children younger than themselves. They thought about some of the things younger children need in comparison to things they themselves might need or want.

Computing:

In Computing this week, the children began to explore EXCEL and looked at how it can be used to gather and input information.

Please can you make sure that you are accessing the class page on TEAMs, as there are often important messages put on there for you as parents to be aware of. This terms home learning has also been uploaded onto the TEAMS page.
