Term 6 Week 3 19.6.26

Another busy week. Our Year 5 and 6 boys have had a football tournament; unfortunately they didn’t win but they had a great day of football.

We are eagerly following the World Cup and completing our chart daily. Everyone is excited to see how their country they got in the sweep stake is doing.

PLEASE SEE THE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FOR DATES AND TIMES OF EVENTS THIS TERM. ALSO CHECK FOR SOME COMPETITONS AND CHECK THE CLASS WINDOW FOR THE JAM JAR ACTIVITY FOR THE FESTIVAL OF FUN!

In English, we have almost finished the book City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. We have been really focusing on the emotions of the characters as they prepare to leave Ember. We have written letters, messages and fact files as a WANTED poster. Next week will write our hot writes and complete the story. We will also watch the film when we have finished the book and make comparisons.

This week in maths, Year 5 have been learning about negative numbers. They have been counting through 0 in ones and multiples, they have compared and ordered negative numbers and learning to find the difference between negative numbers.

Year 6 have been using this time to rehearse for their Year 6 production of The Pirates of the Currybean: they are really enjoying it and buzzing when they are talking about it. The crew have been making props and getting the resources together and there will more involvement in the rehearsals from next week. When they are not rehearsing they are problem solving and consolidating their maths knowledge.

For our topic Going for Gold, we used our designs to create venues to host an Olympic sport using Tinkercad.

In RE, we looked at how art is used to represent Jesus and Bible stories.

In Science, we wrote up our investigation on gravity from last week.

In PE this term we are learning to play Handball and Athletics in preparation for sports day.
