Term 5 week 1

Welcome back to Term 5, wow that really doesn’t seem possible that we are so close to the end of the school year. We hope that you all had a wonderful Easter break with your families. Our topic this term is ‘Green Fingers, Live and Let Live.’

English:

In English this week, the children have been focusing on their sentence composition. We have looked at the different parts of a sentence, particularly trying to remember finger spaces and our phonics when writing. We have been supporting the children with their recording, as they all often have lots of ideas but forget elements when they are recording their writing.

Maths:

In Maths this week, the children have been learning about mass. We have used the words heavier and lighter to talk about the weight of objects. Initially the children used their hands to physically feel the different weight of objects. They then moved on to use balance scales to see the actual weight of the two objects.

Science:

In Science this week, the children learnt about the parts of a plant. They learnt about the different parts and the function they have for helping the plant to grow. The children then had a go at labelling the different parts on either their own pictures or some given examples of plants.

DT:

In DT this week, the children learnt about different places plants can be planted, in particular different examples of planters. The children looked at a range of different examples for planters made using recycled materials. They then evaluated these and explained why they would make a good example of a planter.

Please can you send the children in with plastic bottles to support with our DT learning this term, as the children will be using these to make their planters at the end of the term.

Art:

In Art this week, the children learnt about the artist David Best and how he used materials to design and create his own sculptures. The children then designed their own sculpture of something important to them.

RE:

In RE this week, the children learnt about what Christians believe and how stories can be used to support people with their beliefs.

PSHE:

In PSHE this week, the children learnt about rules and thought about the rules that we have in school to help us learn and keep us safe. The children then thought about which rules they felt were the most important to them.

Music:

In Music this week, the children learnt about how we can use our voices to show different characters. The children listened to a piece of music and thought about some of the characters that might be in the music, they then represented these characters using their own voices.

Please can you make sure that you are accessing the class page on TEAMs. There are logins for TEAMS in the front of your child's reading record. On TEAMS there are often important messages put on there for you as parents to be aware of.  There are also posts added to share with you some of the wonderful learning the children have been doing.

Have a wonderful weekend.
