Term 6 Week 5 3.7.26

PLEASE SEE THE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FOR DATES AND TIMES OF EVENTS AS WE NEAR THE END OF TERM. ALSO CHECK THE CLASS WINDOW FOR THE JAM JAR ACTIVITY FOR THE FESTIVAL OF FUN THIS NEEDS TO BE IN BY MONDAY 6TH JULY.

Our Year 6 have now had a transition day or days at their secondary school. We can't believe we have 2 weeks left!

Forest School
While the Year 6s were away, the Year 5 children spent an hour helping to tidy and improve our Forest School area.
Mr Bowles would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped. You were all amazing!  Your hard work, teamwork and enthusiasm made a real difference, and your efforts were greatly appreciated.

In English, we have finished reading The City of Ember and have started to read The 100-mile-an-hour Dog by Jeremy Strong. We have explored using adjectives to write expanded noun phrases to write a character description. We ended the week by writing a summary including writing dialogue.

This week in Maths, Year 5 have been learning to convert measures from metric to imperial and vice versa. They have been learning to convert time using this knowledge to interpret timetables.

Year 6 have been using this time to rehearse for their Year 6 production of The Pirates of the Currybean: they are really enjoying it and buzzing when they are talking about it. The props are all made and everyone will be involved in the rehearsals from next week. We are now on count down until the performance to parents and family.

In Science, we continued to learn about air resistance by focusing on variables and making parachutes of different sizes and shapes to explore how to make them go slower.

In History, we have been finding out about gender inequality in the Olympics and how scandal caused some countries to boycott them.

In DT, we created a daily plan for athletes thinking about their training and most importantly what their diet would consist of and how it might differ to ours.
