Term 6 Week 2 12.6.26

Welcome back to our Year 5 and 6 who went on the residential. Despite the weather they had a great time and for some they experienced new things. I’m sure they are looking forward to their own beds tonight!

In English, we are continuing to read the book City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. The plot is thickening and we are making more links to what we have read and what is happening now with the characters. We have been making predictions and summarising the story.

Whilst the residential children were away, the rest of us had an image titled Hatched. We discussed what was happening in the picture, then wrote a story about it and used artistic techniques to create a book cover for the story. We also explored emotions and wrote a poem about them.

This week in Maths, Year 5 have been learning to divide decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. They have also been identifying missing values when multiplying and dividing decimals.

Year 6 have been rehearsing for their Year 6 production of The Pirates of the Currybean: they are really enjoying it and buzzing when they are talking about it. When they are not rehearsing, they are problem solving and consolidating their maths knowledge.

During the residential the children created, made and played a card game with a Maths theme.

For our topic Going for Gold, we designed a place to host an Olympic sport. We also have done a class sweepstake for the World Cup which has now kicked off. We are excited to track the games and results on our World Cup chart.

In PE this term we are learning to play Handball and Athletics in preparation for Sports Day.
