Cherry Class Blog 2025 26 Term 6 Week 5

Welcome everyone to one of our last blogs of the academic year.

This time of year is always so busy, especially for the older children who are busy practising their end-of-year production (about pirates!) and visiting their new secondary schools. And for our Year 5's, it's time to start thinking about being the eldest in the school from September and finding out their classes and new teachers also.

In Literacy we have started our new story called 'The 100 Mile An Hour Dog.' Unsurprisingly, this dog is extremely quick and about to be entered into the Animal Olympics! This week we described characters and made predictions as to the story content.

In Numeracy Year 5 have been investigating measures again this week, in particular time and time intervals (e.g. the length of a journey in hours and minutes that starts at 07:48 and arrives at 16:25) and timetables.

In History we looked at the Olympics in terms of scandals and boycotts! We discovered that people even cheated way back when in the Ancient Olympic Games and continue to cheat now. We looked at how boycotts affected Olympics in both 1980 and 1984, the reasons behind it and the affects it had, especially on athletes.

Just a reminder that it is the 'Festival of Fun' next Friday. Please come along and support the event. It will be another dress down day for the children next Friday and please may I ask that the children bring in some 'chocolate' or 'cake' for us to sell! Many thanks
