In Maths, the children explored different ways to create 3D shapes using spaghetti and marshmallows. Team building and communication skills were put to the test here as it was all hands-on deck! Then, the children worked through a range of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory problems in order to receive Golden Tickets and win the most tickets in the class.
In Literacy, the children created TV adverts persuading viewers to buy their new invention of a chocolate bar. They created posters to advertise these, alongside their TV advert. Please keep an eye out for some of the posters along the windows next week!
In Geography, the children learnt about four-digit grid references and used these to locate features on the map, using map symbols. They created their own maps and challenged friends to a series of five questions, asking them to find different things on these maps. In Science, the children used the terms ‘attract’ and ‘repel’ to describe the magnetic force between the north seeking and south seeking poles of a magnet. They tested this in groups and concluded that opposite poles attract. In Computing, the children explored how a network of computers work by replicating a network through children passing a message from child to child. After introducing a ‘switch’ the children could see how networks work and how the role of a switch is vital in a network system.
Next week to celebrate our learning from this term, we will be taking a trip to Mote Park on Friday (22nd May) to test out the kites we have been designing this term. This will be covered by staff within school, and children will be back by lunchtime so no packed lunch or alternative clothing is needed. Children should come to school as normal. We will also be watching the 1971 film version of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory to compare it to the story version we have been reading this term. This film is classified U, however if you have any questions regarding the film please come and speak to me.
Please note, we have spoken to the children today about bringing in squishy toys, fidgets or any soft cuddly toys. None of the above should be being brought into school. The children have been reminded of this today and if you could also be reminding them at home that would be very much appreciated. No toys or squishy fidgets are to be brought into school. Thank you.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs Daniells and Mrs Ali.
