Term 6 Week 5

Another busy week in Ivy Class has been and gone now. The children have spent the week trying to learn their lines for the class assembly and also just simply practising where they are to sit in the hall. Only a couple more weeks to go now and they are going to be just as busy as the last few.

English:

In English this week, the children have been learning about the features of letters and have used these to attempt writing a letter in response to Duncan the child in our focus text 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. The children then received their own letter from Ivy Class glue sticks. The glue sticks were not happy with the children because of the way they have been treating them. Ivy Class thought carefully about all the complaints of the glue stick and planned their ideas to write a letter in response.

Maths:

In Maths this week, the children have been learning about time. They have learnt the days of the week and took part in a carousel of activities to help them remember the days of the week. The children made days of the week paper chains and also days of the week spinners. They have also begun learning about the months of the year; the children created their own paper plate months spinner and used this to practise sharing the different months with their friends.

Science:

In Science this week, the children learnt about the 3 things that we need in order to survive - water, food and air. The children learnt about the importance of these alongside shelter to ensure we stay healthy. The children learnt about 4 animals - human, bird, spider and bear; they learnt where these 4 animals get their water and food and where they live.

Music:

In Music this week, the children began to learn how to play a xylophone. They learnt about some of the notes on the xylophone and used these to respond to the song they have been learning. The children had to try taking it in turns each time a different line came up as part of the song.

PE:

In PE this week, the children were taught about the importance of team work. Ivy Class and Holly Class teamed up this week to have a game of cricket between the two classes. Holly Class batted while Ivy Class planned out the best places to stand on the field to try and get as many members of Holly Class out. Ivy Class learnt an important skill around the fact it is quicker to throw a ball back instead of running back to the bowler.

Thank you to everyone that came to our class assembly, we hope that you enjoyed listening to our favourite parts of the year. It has been an absolute whirlwind this year, we can't quite believe that we have only got 2 weeks left of Year 1.

Have a wonderful weekend in the sunshine.
