Term 5 Week 2

Another amazing week in Walnut Class! Thank you to so many parents for coming along to our assembly this morning. We hope you enjoyed it! A huge well done to all of the children- we are so proud of them!

In Maths this week, Year 4 have been looking at the value of digits in decimal numbers. We have used this to order and compare decimal numbers with one decimal place. We then looked at rounding decimals to the nearest whole number. Finally we looked at decimal equivalents to 1/2, 1/4 and 3/4. Year 3 identified the difference between unit and non-unit fractions, recognising that non-unit fractions always have a numerator that is greater than 1. We used this knowledge to find fractions of both a set of objects and a number. We worked through steps, that we created together, to solve word problems. We enjoyed working both practically with resources and through abstract methods, using numbers and our multiplication facts.

In Literacy, we have been looking at setting descriptions. We looked at how to write noun phrases, and use similes, metaphors and personification and combined all of our learning at the end of the week to write detailed descriptions of the Bucket's house.  The children thoroughly enjoyed creating their own Roald Dahl style characters.

In Geography, we were looking at directional language and the 8 directions on a compass. We used this to describe the location of different countries. In DT, we drew annotated sketches of our kite designs ready to make them in the coming weeks. The children have been asked to bring a plastic bag in to create their kite. Please could we ask that these come in if they haven’t already. They need to be stable enough to withhold the heat from the glue gun.

We finished off our week with a trip to the church where we were able to look around and learn all about the Easter story. The children were introduced to the idea of 'mystery' for Christians being key to their beliefs. The children were really engaged and enjoyed exploring.

Have a great weekend in the sun!
