Another busy week culminating in our class' assembly on Friday morning. I was so proud of Oak Class!
Careers day was a huge success (spread over 2 days) with talks from police officers, a nurse and a software engineer. In English, we carried on reading The Day the Crayons Quit, which featured heavily in our assembly since the children are engaging with it so much. In maths, we have finished studying fractions and have been looking at equivalent fractions. In science, children practically learnt how animals such as squirrels and birds make their shelters, and what we as humans need for survival, focussing on genuine needs (food, water, shelter, air) versus wants (chocolate, video game, tv etc). In history, children learnt how strict Queen Victoria's childhood was, and how different it was from nowadays. She wasn't allowed to walk down the stairs as a child without holding someone's hand, and she couldn't choose who to play with: play mates were decided upon by her mother.
Thank you to the parents who were able to attend our assembly, and to Mr Auronen, Detective Davis, Mrs Davis (as PD Barker!) and Mrs Ileana for talking to all of Key Stage 1 about their professions.
Have a wonderful weekend.
