What a hot week it was! The children did amazingly despite the heat.
PLEASE SEE THE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FOR DATES AND TIMES OF EVENTS THIS TERM. ALSO CHECK FOR SOME COMPETITIONS AND CHECK THE CLASS WINDOW FOR THE JAM JAR ACTIVITY FOR THE FESTIVAL OF FUN!
In English, we have almost finished the book City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. This week has been hot write week (no pun intended!). We have planned, written and edited our hot writes. We have finished the story and watched the film. We have compared the film to the book as they are different in places. Next week we start reading The 100-mile-an-hour Dog by Jeremy Strong.
This week in Maths, Year 5 have been learning to convert measures and how to retain this knowledge. They have been converting g/kg, cm/mm/m and ml/l.
Year 6 have been using this time to rehearse for their Year 6 production of The Pirates of the Currybean: they are really enjoying it and buzzing when they are talking about it. The crew have been making props and getting the resources together and there will more involvement in the rehearsals from next week. When they are not rehearsing they are problem solving and consolidating their maths knowledge.
In Science, we learnt about air resistance by making parachutes of different sizes to explore how to make them go slower. We concluded that the larger the surface area, the slower it fell. We also recorded the experiment and discussed how we changed the variables.
In PE this week due the heat we made use of the shade on the field and made games using natural resources.
