Term 5, Week 1 (24/4/26)

✨ Welcome Back to Term 5! ✨
Welcome back to Term 5. We hope you had a great Easter break 🐣🌸.

πŸ“š English
In English, we are reading the book City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau πŸ“–. We read the instructions and the first line and planned and wrote an information text for our cold write ✍️. We completed the week by writing adjectives to describe the main character, Lina Mayfleet.

πŸ“ Maths
This week in Maths, Year 5 have been learning about angles πŸ“. They have been understanding and using degrees.
Year 6 have been finding angles in quadrilaterals and learning how to find angles in polygons with 5–10 sides πŸ”’. They have learnt the parts of a circle and how to find the radius and diameter β­•. They have also been drawing shapes and angles and finished the week by looking at nets for 3D shapes πŸ“¦.

πŸ”¦ Science
In Science this term, we are learning about Light. This week, we learnt about how we see πŸ‘€. We drew and labelled an eye and then wrote the functions of the different parts of the eye.

πŸ–₯️ Computing – 3D Designers
Our topic this term is 3D Designers. In Computing, we will be designing a product, creating it using Tinkercad πŸ’», and then using the 3D printer to print it πŸ–¨οΈ.

🏏 PE
In PE this term, we are learning about cricket and OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activity). This week, we focused on team building 🀝. We were given tasks and challenges to face as a team, and communication was the key πŸ—£οΈ. In cricket, we practiced our throwing and fielding skills.

β›ͺ RE
This term in RE, we will be looking at different places of worship and the ceremonies and services that happen within them. We will be exploring the similarities and differences between these places of worship ✨. This week, we have looked at a Baptist church and a Church of England church and how they conduct baptisms.

πŸ“… Upcoming Events

πŸ“ Year 6 SATs
Year 6 will be sitting their SATs from Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th May. Please ensure your child is in school and on time βœ…. The tests will take place in the morning, starting at 9am.
There will be a breakfast club for Year 6 only β˜•πŸž. More information will follow nearer the time.

🌳 Mote Park Trip
On Friday 15th May, we will be going to Mote Park to celebrate the end of SATs week πŸŽ‰.

ℹ️ Information

πŸ’Ž Jewellery

  • Earrings should not be worn for PE.
  • Only stud earrings should be worn to school.
  • Watches may be worn; however, smart watches must be handed in with mobile phones every morning and will be returned at the end of the school day βŒšπŸ“±.
  • No other jewellery should be worn, including necklaces and rings.

πŸ‘• PE Kits

  • Please follow the school uniform policy for the correct PE kit.
  • PE this term is on Thursday and Friday, and we will be doing OAA and Cricket 🏏.

🚫 Chewing Gum
Children should not be chewing gum in school. Please remind them of this.

🏑 Home Learning

Home learning includes learning times tables on TTRockstars, which is monitored weekly ⭐. Children will also use EdShed to improve their spelling, with weekly spellings learnt both in school and at home ✏️.
Year 6 also have Maths home learning set on MyMaths. All children have been given their passwords πŸ”.
Children should also be reading daily πŸ“š and recording this in their Reading Records.
