Welcome back and hello Term 5! We hope you enjoyed the wonderful sunshine over the Easter break. The children are settling back into routines well.
In Maths Year 3 revisited fractions, using multiplication and division to find equivalent fractions. We understood that to find an equivalent fraction, what you multiple the numerator by you have to also multiple the denominator by. We then found which times table both the denominator and a numerator of a fraction were in and used this to divide them to find another equivalent fraction. We moved on to adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator, recognising that the denominator does not change and the numerators are added together. Finally, we worked systematically to find different ways to make a whole with fractions.
Year 4 have continued learning about decimals. We have looked at how decimals and fractions over 10 and 100 can be added together and how whole numbers can be partitioned in different ways to make 1. We ended the week by completing a mock Multiplication Check, please make sure you are practicing at home - the test will take place in the first two weeks of Term 6.
In English we started our new text for the term - Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. The children are truly immersed in the story already, thinking carefully about the characters and how and why Roald Dahl has named them. We created our own characters and, like Roald Dahl, used their names as a clue for what their appearance or personality may be like.
In DT, we explored and evaluated a range of kites. Throughout the term we will design and create our own kites which will be fit for purpose - flying! We identified the parts of a kite and their jobs. Through PE we started our football unit, practising dribbling the ball and keeping control. In Geography, we looked at a range of different maps including OS maps both of a zoomed in view and a bird’s eye view, Google Maps and Google Earth. We drew similarities and differences between these and the children were amazed to hear how the A-Z Atlas map was relied on so heavily in the past!
Please continue to encourage your child to read with you daily, recording this in their Reading Record and access the online home learning through Ed Shed and My Maths. Finally, a date for your diary. Our final class assembly of the year is next Friday, 1st May at 9am. Please come along.
Thank you for your continued support and have a great weekend!
Mrs Daniells and Mrs Ali.
